Emergency Procedures
In case of an emergency, always use your best judgment.
If there is a threat of injury, be sure that you and the students get to a safe place. It is important to note, we cannot hold a student against their will during emergency situations. We should provide them with as much information as possible so they can make an informed and rational decision, as much possible given the circumstances. Report all incidences to Sharon or Melissa, as soon as possible.
In case we lose power:
- Battery backups will beep, immediately tell students to save their work for online exams.
- Write down each student’s name and the exam they are taking for future reference.
- Everyone should stay in place (there will be emergency lighting).
- If the power is out for more than 15 minutes, release the students and inform the faculty what students were at the testing center when the incident occurred. We can make arrangements with LearnTech to re-open the exams
During a severe thunderstorm:
- Close your window blinds, shades or curtains, and keep a safe distance from them.
- Stay away from faucets, sinks, showers, and bathtubs. Plumbing and bathroom fixtures can conduct electricity.
- Avoid using a corded (landline) telephone during a thunderstorm, for the same reason. Cellular/mobile phones are safe to use.
In case of a tornado:
- Move away from windows and glass doorways.
- Go to the innermost part of the building on the lowest possible floor.
- Do not use elevators because the power may fail, leaving you trapped.
- Protect your head and make yourself as small a target as possible by crouching down.
In case of a fire alarm:
- Get everyone out of the building, leave everything
- When in a safe area, call the other location to get a list of all of the students at the office.
- Once all clear, return to test center to resume exams
- Notify faculty of the incident
- If the alarm takes longer than a few minutes or an exam expires while under mandatory evacuation of the building, notify faculty for any exception.
